Doula

My Story
My passion for women’s health started at an early age, in the form of studying about pregnancy and childbirth. This passion is what led me to specialize in urogynecology after receiving my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Midwestern University in 2014. Following graduation, I immersed myself in all things women’s health. After assisting with the birth of my first nephew, I was propelled to become a certified Doula. It is my dream come true to be able to once again follow my passion in serving women during such a monumental moment in their lives. As your doula, I am there to support your birth, your way - at home or at the hospital, medication-free or with an epidural, VBAC or Cesarean. While no one can foresee what your birth may bring, my focus is to help you feel satisfied with your birth experience. My goal is to help you to feel empowered in your choices and assist in creating a memory you’ll cherish for a lifetime. Through my work as a women’s health physical therapist, I have found that far too often women are not getting the care that they need in the 4th trimester, the first 3 months after your baby is born. It is my mission to bridge this gap through providing education and postpartum intervention alongside my work as a Doula.

What is a Doula?
Doula is a term used to describe a trained and experienced labor companion who provides the woman and her husband or partner continuous emotional support, physical comfort, and assistance obtaining information before, during, and just after childbirth.

Evidence shows that utilizing a Doula:
  • Decreases use of epidural by 35%
  • Decreases use of Pitocin by 71%
  • Decreases likelihood of forceps and c-section by >50%
  • Decreases labor time by 98 minutes
  • Decreases the incidence of postpartum depression and anxiety
  • Increases success with breast feeding
  • Increases mother-child interaction
  • Increases self-esteem
  • Increases birth satisfaction

  • Initial Meeting – A complimentary initial consultation with no obligation to commit.
  • One or two prenatal visits – A time for us to review your birth plan, to get to know your family, discuss any fears, hopes, and desires surrounding your birth. The prenatal visits may also include childbirth education, positioning during labor, baby mapping, and techniques for body opening/relaxation.
